Jalen Hurts Joins Elon Musk in Honoring Iryna Zarutska With $500K Donation

American businessman Elon Musk has announced a $1 million pledge to fund murals across major U.S. cities honoring
The initiative was originally proposed by Eoghan McCabe, CEO of Intercom, who committed $500,000 in $10,000 artist grants to paint murals of Zarutska in prominent city locations.
On top of Musk’s contribution, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has stepped forward with a personal donation of $500,000 to expand the project. Hurts emphasized that Zarutska’s story — a young woman seeking peace and safety in America only to have her life stolen — “deserves to be remembered with dignity and respect.”
Former U.S. President Donald Trump also weighed in on the tragedy, demanding the death penalty for Dekarlos Brown, the 34-year-old suspect arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Trump called Brown “an animal” and insisted there was “no other option” for punishment.
Police confirmed Zarutska was fatally stabbed while riding home from work. Brown, who has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2011 including theft, armed robbery, and threats, remains in custody as the investigation continues.
With Musk’s $1 million, McCabe’s $500,000 in grants, and Hurts’ $500,000 donation, the mural project is set to become a powerful national tribute — ensuring Zarutska’s legacy lives on through art while highlighting the urgent need for justice and safety.
