Bills Add Linebacker Who Played 13 Games Last Season After Keonta Jenkins Suffers Leg Injury
The Buffalo Bills have moved to strengthen their linebacker depth after an injury sidelined one of their key reserves this week.
On September 23, the team confirmed the signing of
Depth Addition at Linebacker
The Bills held workouts for six players earlier in the week and ultimately signed Reese to fill an open practice squad slot. Last week, Buffalo had promoted Keonta Jenkins for the matchup against the Miami Dolphins, but Jenkins suffered a leg injury during the game.
Reese’s arrival may signal concern that Jenkins could miss time, though the Bills haven’t issued an official update yet. As noted by SI.com’s Alex Brasky, Jenkins was originally a defensive back who transitioned into linebacker and saw significant playing time for Tennessee last season.
“Reese IV, who played safety in college, entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Titans in 2023. He began on their practice squad before being promoted to the active roster later that year,” Brasky wrote.
Now 27, Reese logged appearances in seven games with three starts during his rookie season. He recorded 21 tackles and tied for fourth on the Titans in special teams production.
A Familiar Face Returns on Offense
The week’s tryouts also resulted in an offensive signing, as the Bills brought back Nick Broeker, a former draft pick. Broeker was initially taken by Buffalo in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft but was waived during final roster cuts. Houston quickly claimed him off waivers, and he later bounced between the Steelers and Cowboys.
Broeker saw the field in 12 games across two seasons but was unable to secure a permanent role in 2025.
“The Bills are Broeker’s fourth stop this year,” Ryan Miller of the Democrat & Chronicle noted. “Houston cut ties in May, the Steelers released him before preseason, and Dallas let him go after two preseason appearances in August.”
For Broeker, it’s more than just another chance. The lineman had personal ties to the Bills organization, sharing after the 2023 draft that he already knew Dawson Knox and had played alongside his late brother, Luke, at Ole Miss.
“I know Dawson pretty well, so getting back with him is exciting,” Broeker said at the time. “I played with his younger brother Luke in college, and Dawson used to come visit, so it feels like reconnecting with family.”
Broeker admitted Buffalo was his preferred landing spot from the beginning.
“Honestly, I really hoped for Buffalo after the draft,” he said. “Seeing the success they’ve had, the winning culture, and the Super Bowl potential, it was definitely the call I wanted to get.”
